Pray For Peace, an extraordinary quilt made by Evelyn Holmes, was featured in the June 29, 2008 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter. It honors each branch of our armed services. The soldiers in the middle of the quilt were appliqued  on a background of blue sky with our air force overhead. The words “Pray for Peace” are prominently embroidered on the front of the quilt.

Pray For Peace helps us to focus on the real meaning of Independence Day. It’s not all about fireworks, barbecue and watermelon. In the midst of our celebration, it is appropriate to reflect on those who guard our freedom.

Pray for Peace took first place at the 2007 Quilt Challenge of the Quilters Guild of the Southern Crescent. The theme was “PEACE”.
