My Street by Aisha Lumumba
My Street was featured in the September 28, 2008 edition of the Start Your Week with a Quilt newsletter. It was created by Aisha Lumumba. Although it is hard to see from the picture, this spectacular quilt is composed of the most humble of quilt blocks, the log cabin block. The log cabin block is one of the first blocks new quilters learn because it is simple and very forgiving of inaccurate seams. The block is composed of strips that are sewn around a center square.

Aisha, however, takes the log cabin block to a new level by creatively choosing fabrics and color combinations that carry out the theme of My Street. She has also embellished the quilt with beads. My Street measures 60 x 33 inches.
My Street will be offered for sale at the Fabric Art Exhibit which begins next Sunday at the Grounds Coffeehouse, Sky Loft Condos, 898 Oak Street, Atlanta, GA. The sales price is $2000.00. You can meet Aisha at the “Meet the Artist” reception Sunday from 12 noon – 6 p.m.
