Bountiful Harvest by Levine Joiner
Bountiful Harvest was the featured quilt of the week in the November 23, 2008 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter. It was created by Levine Joiner. Most of Levine’s quilts tell a story, and Bountiful Harvest is no exception.
Levine uses applique techniques to create this story of an African mother gathering her harvest while her two children look on. From the looks of what has been gathered, it has truly been a good year.
Also, true to Levine’s style, the colors in the quilt are bold and colorful. She uses rich embellishments on the mother’s dress and the head pieces of the family to add dimension to the piece.
The children seem incredibly helpful and well behaved. I like to think of them as being the mother’s most beloved harvest.
