Kente Cloth by Elaine Parker

If you have attended any quilt shows lately, you may have noticed that embellishments are all the rage now. Quilters are adding beads, crystals, buttons and anything else they can find to add depth and dimension to their quilts. This evolution attests to the fact that quilts are truly considered works of art now.

Kente Cloth, which was featured in the November 30, 2008 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter,  is actually extraordinary bead work weaved together to create a beaded version of Kente cloth. This exceptional beadwork was done by Elaine Parker.

You can see this piece and others in the Extraordinary Results exhibit that is currently at the Atrium on Sweet Auburn Art Gallery, 236 Auburn Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30303.
