The Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Show opened to rave reviews Saturday. There were large appreciative crowds for both the quilts and the lecture presented by Dr. Carolyn Mazloomi. The quilts will remain on display through Friday, August 7, 2009 at the South Fulton Arts Center, 4645  Butner Road, College Park, GA. Hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and admission is free.

One of the most stunning quilts in the show was featured in the August 2, 2009 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt© newsletter.  It is called Ra, and it was created by Jeanette Walton.

Ra is the ancient Egyptian Sun God.  As Jeanette explains it, “For the Egyptians, the sun represented light, warmth, and growth. These beliefs made sun deities very important to the Egyptians, and the sun came to be the ruler of all.”

The pattern for this quilt is called a circle bargello, and it comes from a book entitled Quilts Without Corners by Cheryl Phillips. The exquisite machine quilting was done by Melinda Fulkerson.

Everyone at the show agreed that this is definitely a sunshine quilt. Add some sunshine to your life by going to see this quilt in person before the show ends Friday. The show is open daily from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA.
