Quilts at Montgomery Museum of Fine Art

The Montgomery Fine Art Museum is currently exhibiting African American quilts from its private collection. The exhibit is entitled Alabama Threads: African-American Quilts from the Permanent Collection.  The museum began collecting African American quilts in 2004  with the acquisition of 48 quilts created  primarily by women from west Alabama between 1945 and 2001. In late 2008, the museum added 10 more quilts to its collection. The collection features artists including Yvonne Wells and Nora Ezell, whose quilts showcase the variety of styles and techniques of quilt making.

The exhibit continues through September 27, 2009 . For more information visit the museum’s web site.
