Here is a wow! quilt for you. It is called 4th of July, and it is one of those quilts that takes your breath away. It was created by Charlotte Lindsey and was featured in the September 13, 2009 issue of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter.

First, the colors blow you away, and just when you have recovered from that, you notice all of those pointy points and curves. This style of quilt is known as a New York beauty. Charlotte’s beauty is made entirely of batiks that pop out against a black background. measures 54 x 71 inches. It was paper pieced and quilted by Charlotte and finished in 2008. When Charlotte brought this quilt to the Brown Sugar Stitchers meeting for “Show and Tell,” she said she just had to prove to herself that she could make this quilt. After taking a class on how to make the quilt, and in her words, failing the class, Charlotte says she was even more determined to make this quilt.

Well, you see the result of Charlotte’s determination, and that determination was recently rewarded. At the recent Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Show, 4th of July finished in third place in the large quilt category.

Way to get up and get going, Charlotte!
