The featured quilt of the week in the August 29, 2010 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter is called Night and Day, and it was created by Janice Hunter. It is essentially a black and white quilt, but the bright kente cloth sprinkled throughout is a pleasant surprise.
To make this quilt, Janice used a traditional square in a square pattern. Each block starts with a kente cloth center. Repeating the kente cloth in the borders creates a cohesive theme. Janice also gave a traditional pattern her personal twist by creating a border of Adinkra symbols.
Night and Day measures 48 x 48 inches. The beautiful quilting which adds to the movement of the quilt was done by Ina Sanders.
Night and Day was recently part of the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival held at the South Fulton Arts Center. It was listed for sale for $350.00
