Victoria’s Stilettos

Victoria's Stilettos by Bessie Barnett

The featured quilt of the week in the September 5, 2010 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter is called Victoria’s Stilettos, and it was created by Bessie Barnett.  This quilt, along with approximately 50 other quilts and dolls, was part of the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival sponsored by the Clara Ford Foundation and Hammonds House Museum. It made  all who saw it want to plan a special night out on the town.   starts with a panel of stiletto blocks in the center of the quilt. Each shoe block is whimsically embellished to make each block unique. Everyone who knows Bessie knows that orange is her favorite color; so the shoes are bordered with an orange and yellow pieced border. The quilt is then  finished with a bright orange border.

When Bessie was making this quilt, her granddaughter Victoria claimed this quilt as her own. That is where the quilt gets its name.

I am planning my night out. What about you?
