The featured quilt of the week in the November 7, 2010 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt is called Timeless Sands, and it was made by Aisha Lumumba. It is one of the quilts featured in an upcoming quilt exhibit called Vistas. In addition to the quilts of Aisha, the exhibit will feature the quilts of Janice Hunter and the bead work of Elaine Parker.
Timeless Sands is a landscape quilt. This type of quilt allows the quilter to become an artist as the quilt is created in free form without a pattern. The fabric becomes the paint as the quilters choose fabrics that will lend realism to the quilt. In her quilt, Aisha also included herdsmen and camels to give the desert scene more realism.
Be sure to see the entire exhibit which opens November 15, 2010 and runs through December 31, 2010. Admission is free. The exhibit is being held at the Atrium Gallery in the lobby of the Oddfellows Building, 236 Auburn Avnue in downtown Atlanta. Exhibit hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. All of the quilts are offered for sale. The opening reception is November 18, 2010 from 6 – 8 p.m.
