The featured quilt of the week in the February 6, 2011 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter is called Sister Freedom. It was created by Wardean Miller.
Wardean says she was inspired to create this quilt featuring Sojourner Truth after she attended the unveiling of a bronze bust of Sojourner Truth in the State Capitol On April 28, 2009. First Lady Michelle Obama unveiled the bust.
Wardean, who is an accomplished artist, painted Sojourner Truth on fabric and framed her with a pieced border. The quilt was quilted on her machine.
Sister Freedom was exhibited at the 2010 Uncommon Threads Quilt Exhibit that was sponsored by the Sewjourners Quilt Guild. The exhibit was held at the Southwest Arts Center in May. Plan now to attend the 2011 exhibit.
