Catch of the Day

Catch of the Day by Inez Wilkerson

The featured quilt of the week in the April 25, 2010 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter  is called Catch of the Day, and it was created by Inez Wilkerson. Inez loves bright, happy quilts, and this quilt is no exception — even if this beautiful little fish may be somebody’s catch of the day. Let’s hope he is the one who gets away.

Inez machine appliqued the fish and her surroundings on a blue background. She also quilted the piece on her machine. Crystal air bubbles add  a dash of bling to this cute little quilt.

Catch of the Day was featured in  the  challenge quilts in  the 2009 Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Show. Each quilter was asked to make a personal representation of what it means to be an African American quilter.

Wind Dance Butterflies

Wind Dance Butterflies by Inez Wilkerson

Wind Dance Butterflies was the featured quilt of the week in the November 15, 2009 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter.   It was created by Inez Wilkerson.

Saturday, the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild will gather at the Carrie Steele Pitts Home to present quilts to the children who reside there. This is absolutely the highpoint of the year for the Brown Sugar Stitchers.

Wind Dance Butterflies is featured because making beautiful, happy quilts for children has become Inez’s specialty. Her quilt Soar which was part of the Brown Sugar Stitchers 2009 Quilt Show will be one of the quilts presented to a child at the Carrie Steele Pitts Home.

Inez says, “She hopes her quilts will make a child be the very best that she can be.”

No one can look at this quilt without feeling strong and beautiful. Those two traits are a good start toward being the best!
