Wine and Words at Hammonds House Museum

Last night  a capacity crowd enjoyed  meeting Irene Latham, author of Leaving Gees Bend at the Wine and Words event at Hammonds House Museum. The event was a collaboration between the Clara Ford Foundation, Hammonds House Museum and Written Magazine and part of the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival lineup of activities.

The audience gained insight into the author’s inspiration for the book and were spellbound by her powerful readings from the book and other historical documents. Ms. Latham spoke earlier in the day at the South Fulton Arts Center where the quilt exhibit is ongoing through August 13th.

Irene Latham Signs Her Book Thursday

Irene Latham, the author of Leaving Gees Bend,  is the featured author of the 2010 Atlanta Quilt Festival. She will speak and sign her book  Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the South Fulton Arts Center, located at 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA. Admission is free. 

If you miss Ms. Latham at  2 p.m., you can still meet her. She will appear at 6:30 p.m.  at Hammonds House Museum as part of their Wine and Words series. This event costs $5.00

Leaving Gees Bend is the highly acclaimed story of a young girl who is forced to leave Gees Bend, Alabama to find a doctor for her mother. It is a sweet story that will warm your heart.

Bring the kids and come meet Irene Latham Thursday. Come early because other authors will also share their books from 10-5 p.m. as part of the Festival Book Fair. While there, be sure to view the amazing quilts and dolls and vote for your favorite quilt.
