Sister Joan

Sister Joan by Jackie Jackson-Harvey

Jackie Jackson-Harvey created Sister Joan as a tribute to her sister Joan who is battling kidney cancer. Quilt artist Lola Jenkins  designed the portrait.  Jackie set the portrait into a panel with one of Joan’s favorite poems Footprints in the Sand to create the 40 x 50 inch quilt.

Sister Joan was recently part of the 2011 Atlanta Quilt Festival held at the South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA. The 2012 Atlanta Quilt Festival opens July 29th.

Butterfly on the Wall

Butterfly on the Wall by Jackie Jackson-Harvey

It’s not quite spring yet, but we can already see signs that it is just around the corner. Daffodils have popped up. Pollen is in the air, and we are starting your week with a butterfly quilt. The featured quilt of the week in the March 6, 2011 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter  is called Butterfly on the Wall. It was created by Jackie Jackson-Harvey.

This round quilt, which is 48 inches in diameter,  was created by using a special wedge-shaped ruler to cut the strips. Jackie used cotton, silk and rayon fabrics leftover from her home decorating project so that her butterfly would match her home decor. Her quilt is pieced and quilted on her machine.
Butterfly on the Wall was part of the 2009 Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Show. To see more of Jackie’s beautiful quilts, visit the 2011 Atlanta Quilt Festival© which will be held July 31 – August 13, 2011 at the South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA.

Jackie’s Recipe Quilt

Jackie's Recipe Quilt by Jackie Jackson-Harvey, 2009.

Most quilters are multi-talented, and the creator of the featured quilt in the December 6, 2009, edition of the Start Your Week With A Quilt newsletter  is  no exception. She is Jackie Jackson-Harvey, and her unique quilt is called Jackie’s Recipe Quilt.

Jackie is an exceptional cook and loves collecting and trying out new recipes. In fact, her genealogy group has published a cook book. So it seemed only logical to Jackie to include some of her favorite recipes in a quilt.

Jackie printed the recipes on fabric sheets and then appliqued them to her quilt top. She chose a green gingham check for her background, which matches her kitchen. Hanging tabs on the top of the quilt ensure that she can hang the quilt near her stove so that the recipes are handy when she needs them.
Now that’s a sure fire way of making sure the family recipes survive the generations!
