Gratitude for Keri

Gratitude for Keri by Shannon Turner

The featured quilt of the week in the January 23, 2011 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter is called Gratitude For Keri.  It was created by Shannon Turner.

This quilt is actually part of a series of 14 quilts. Recently, Shannon was placed on total bed rest for 48 days before the birth of her son Joshuah. Nurses at the Rockdale Medical Center took care of her around the clock with incredible dedication. Once Shannon and Joshuah were home safe and healthy, Shannon decided that each of the 16 nurses who cared for her deserved a quilt! Gratitude For Keri is one of them. Each of the quilts is named Gratitude For with the nurse’s name completing the title.

I am sure that none of the nurses expected such an amazing gift, but service to others does have its rewards.

See more of Shannon’s work at the 2011 Atlanta Quilt Festival©, July 31, 2011 – August 13, 2011 at the South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA.

Basketball for C.J.

Basketball for C.J. by Shannon Turner and Maxine Moore

March Madness demands that we share a basketball quilt this week. The featured quilt  in the March 21, 2010 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter was made for six-year-old Gerald Turner, and it is called Basketball for C.J. It was a collaborative effort between Gerald’s Mom Shannon Turner and his grandmother Maxine Moore.

Gerald has grown up around quilts. His entire life has been a collage of patchwork, friends and creative energy. So when he suggested he wanted a basketball quilt, his Mom knew it was time to plant the seeds of stardom. Basketball fabric is the focus of the quilt. His grandmother completed the theme with an embroidered basketball hoop in the border of the quilt.

Basketball for C.J. is on Gerald’s bed where hoop dreams are born.
