Home and Hearth by Sewjourners Quilt Guild

The featured quilt of the week is called Home and Hearth. It was a group project by the members of the Sewjourners Quilt Guild.

The Sewjourners Quilt Guild opened its ninth annual exhibit Friday night with a large and appreciative crowd at the Southwest Arts Center. One of the highlights of the exhibit was Home and Hearth that was won by a lucky attendee.

The exhibit will remain on display until May 18, 2012. The Southwest Arts Center is located at 915 New Hope Road, Atlanta, GA.

Resolve to Learn To Quilt

Why not add “learn to quilt” to your New Year’s Resolution? Maxine Moore teaches quilting at Intown Quilters Quilt Shop and at the Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road in the Atlanta area. Most  quilt shops offer beginning quilting classes, so you should be able to find a class in your area.

Just in time for the beginning of summer, the featured quilt of the week in the May 30, 2010 edition of the Start Your Week with a Quilt newsletter is called Watermelon, and it was created by Sandra Holliday.
 
Sandra is an avid collector of black memorabilia, and now it seems she has begun a collection of watermelon quilts. She also made a quilt called Watermelon Man that was featured in the newsletter.

The focus fabric in this quilt depicts watermelon slices. The bright greens and black complement the watermelon fabric in a traditional block setting.
 
Watermelon was part of the Sewjourners Quilt Guild exhibit that ended May 31 at the Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Drive, Atlanta, GA.

The featured quilt of the week in the May 23, 2010 edition of the Start Your Week With a Quilt newsletter is called Down By the Sea Shore,  and it was created by Rhonda Barrow.
 
Rhonda has created a beautiful beachscape quilt with her careful choice of fabrics and embellishments. The use of embellishments such as yarn, sequins and shells give the quilt a realistic quality. measures 24 x 48 inches. It was featured at the Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road, Atlanta as part of the Sewjourners Quilt Guild exhibit through May 31, 2010.  
 
 I know this quilt makes you want to pack up and head to the beach. Go ahead,. What’s keeping you?

Sewjourners Quilt Show Opens Friday

The 7th Annual Sewjourners Quilt Guild Quilt Show opens this Friday at 7 p.m. at the Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road, Atlanta, GA 30331. The exhibit is called Uncommon Threads Seven.

 If past shows are any indication, there will be some amazing quilts in this show. The exhibit will remain up until May 31, 2010.

 

Hammonds House Museum Holds Fundraiser

harlem renaissanceHammonds House Museum has been a true partner to the African-American quilting community in Atlanta. It co-sponsors the Clara Ford  Quilt Lecture series with the Clara Ford Foundation, and it has featured quilts in its gallery.

The museum will hold its annual fundraiser at 8:00 p.m.  Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Southwest Arts Center, 915 New Hope Road, Atlanta, GA. The fundraiser has a Harlem Renaissance theme and will include a theatrical performance, food, auction  and music.
